PROTECTED NATURAL SITES
A few minutes from the hotel, along the glorious Sentier des Douaniers, the old customs officers’ coastal path, nature has shaped spectacular protected sites: La Parata and the Îles Sanguinaires, together designated a Grand Site de France, and the wild beach of Capo di Feno. A promontory of black granite, sheer drops and coastal maquis on one side, a tongue of pale golden sand on the other: nature bowls you over.
La Parata and Capo di Feno are linked by the Sentier des Douaniers, which winds through the coastal maquis: an easy family walk with breathtaking views.
A little further afield, an hour and a half’s drive from Ajaccio, the Calanques de Piana are one of the wonders of Corsica. Lying on the southern shore of the Gulf of Porto, they are listed, together with the Scandola Nature Reserve and the Gulf of Girolata, as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A boat trip is the best way to discover the Calanques de Piana.
THE GREAT OUTDOORS
Set a course for the wild places of Corsica’s Regional Natural Park: the upper Gravona and Prunelli valleys, river swimming, Lake Tolla, the Bocognano waterfall, the cool mountain stream at Vizzavona and, high in the mountains, the Ese plateau for the magnificent walk to the ‘pozzi’… A bracing breath of fresh air awaits.
